Bowfell

shows Scafell and Scafell Pike from the summit of Bowfell. We arrived at Langdale, after a miserable journey of fog and drizzle, to find the cloud had lifted a bit but it was still very dull. Our route was by the Band, and we came out above the clouds just a couple of hundred feet below the summit - totally unexpected. There wasn't a breath of wind, and absolute silence. We traversed the Crinkles, which were just hovering above the cloud, and lingered to watch the sunset. Inevitably, the descent turned to farce as we stumbled about in the dark and the mist with fading torches.
