Photo from the walk - Therfield to Royston & Reed Circular

County/Area - Hertfordshire

Author - Donald Morton

Length - 10.0 miles / 16.3 km

Ascent - 800 feet / 242 metres

Grade - easy/mod

This walk, which is nearly all on the Hertfordshire Way, is in the most Northerly part of Hertfordshire. It starts in the pretty village of Therfield and loops round over Therfield Common (a designated SSSI) to the historic town of Royston which since it has a bypass does not suffer from through traffic. From there it goes almost due south to Reed where it leaves the Hertfordshire Way to follow quiet lanes back to Therfield. For virtually the whole way there are extensive views over into Cambridgeshire and a feeling of wide open space. There are lots of opportunities for refreshment in Royston and one pub in Therfield. If you want to picnic there are lots of seats on Therfield Heath.
