This Peak District walk was put together to provide a decent walk during the foot and mouth crisis using paths that had reopened. The whole route stays in Cheshire with roughly half of the walk being within the boundaries of the Peak District National Park.

The start is the Trentabank Reservoir Car Park with toilets (Grid ref. SJ961711). Walk out of the car park and turn left (west) and proceed down this road, which bears to the right with Ridgegate Reservoir on your left. Look out for the many birds on this and adjacent reservoirs - nearby Trentabank Reservoir has the largest heronry in the Peak District.

Keep on down this road passing Bottoms Reservoir on your right until you reach Langley village. At the time of writing you can not cross the dam due to repair work so walk past the dam and take the first road on the right. This climbs up to the dam (Grid ref. 946717). At the dam turn left over the dam wall to Tegg's Nose Reservoir to reach a small car park.

Take the far right gate into Tegg's Nose Country Park. A steep climb following the path brings you to the top of Ward's Knob. From here cross the stile and turn right along a vehicle track to Tegg's Nose. The views are excellent. Stay with path in a northerly direction passing the old quarry on the left and some old machinery. The views are still very good with Jodrell Bank Telescope, Macclesfield and Bollington all in view. Keep on this path, which drops down through a gate to a wide path that joins the road to Tegg's Nose information Centre (Grid ref. 950733) where there are toilets.

Keep on this road, Buxton Old Road, in a north-easterly direction as far as Walker Barn on the Cat & Fiddle Road. Care must be taken on this road. It is a favourite road for high speed motorcyclists and it is best to keep to the right and face oncoming traffic. Turn right along the main road and take the second lane on the right just before the corner. Now you can relax again!

Walk up this narrow lane until the lane turns right (grid ref. 962731). Here you can take the green lane (Charity Lane) on the left to Forest Chapel. An alternative to the green lane is to stay on the lane dropping steeply down to take the first gate on the left into Macclesfield Forest. Follow the path down into the Forest, then take the first turning left, over a high style, this lovely path now climbs up through a gate and levels off to join Charity Lane quite close to Forest Chapel. Whichever way you go, the green lane exits onto a tarmac road with the Forest Chapel on your left.

Turn right (south west) at the road and take the first gate on your left into the forest again. The path descends with a wire fence on your left. At the end of the fence take the path to the left - "to the Standing Stone". Follow this path up to the car park. Exit the car park. Turn right then over the road into the forest again following a bridleway with the boundary wall on your left. Look out for the green bank path ahead of you - take this passing signs on the left for Shutlingsloe Hill. Stay on this wide bridleway forking left at a junction to reach Nessit Hill. The trees have been cleared away and there are a couple of seats allowing you to rest and take in the excellent view. Continue down along the bridleway taking the first right. This steep forest path leads you down to a wider path. Turn left passing the named trees and you are back where you started.
