This route makes a linear walk along the Fife Coastal Footpath from Crail to Kingsbarns. If you don't have the benefit of two cars then there is a regular bus service connecting the start and end of the walk (Stagecoach route 95). It is assumed that you start in Crail but if using the bus it might be easier to park at Kingsbarns harbour (grid ref. NO601124) walk to the main road and take the bus to Crail.

From the centre of Crail, walk southwest along High Street, bearing left down Castle Street that leads you down to the harbour, which is both picturesque and a functioning place of work. From the harbour the path is signed leading up steps and around the "castle". From here there is a fine view of the harbour and coast. On your right you will see a flight of steps leading down towards the rocky shoreline and the coastal footpath.

The path is quite narrow to start but soon reaches Crail Beach beyond which you pick up a broader track that leads past a disused airfield on your left. Reaching Goats (grid ref. NO628083) the track becomes a path and continues to the coastguard station at Fife Ness. The route turns northwest here and continues past Balcomie golf course on your left. Perhaps it might be prudent to watch out for stray balls.

The path is never in doubt and stays close to the foreshore. A brief section of woodland is met at Cambo Ness before reaching Cambo Sands and the almost derelict harbour. Turn left here along the road and walk into Kingsbarns.
