This is another circular North York Moors walk based on the Cleveland Way. It has the advantage that the coastal section has very little of the ups-and-downs of the more northerly sections around Robin's Hood Bay. The highlights of the walk are views of the coast and the three old railway stations along the route on the long since closed railway between Whitby and Scarborough.

The walk starts on the road between the village of Ravenscar and the old station (grid ref. NZ982016) on Station Road where there is plenty of room to park. Follow the signed Cleveland Way path that heads towards the sea on a track to the east of the Ravenscar hotel. From here turn south and follow the Cleveland Way all the way to Hayburn Wyke. It is an easy stroll for most of the walk as there are relatively few ascents and descents until you get to Hayburn Wyke. En route the lookout station and radar buildings are of interest. There is an information board explaining their significance. The views from the cliffs are spectacular.

At Hayburn Wyke the Cleveland Way descends to the coast then climbs up to the hotel near the old railway track. The track is a bit boring and busy with bikes, but it is worth persisting until Staintondale station (grid ref. SE999978) which appears to be in the middle of nowhere but strangely close to the one at Hayburn Wyke. For railway enthusiasts you get to see the Hayburn Wyke platform, the station master's house and then the Staintondale platform and buildings.

After Staintondale take the path off on the right that leads to a track that crosses the Hayburn beck then heads up to Plane Tree Cottages, Plane Tree farm and White Hall farm. From here the road becomes a green lane. After passing through a gate, take the right-hand lane and you will come out at Prospect House farm.

Take War Dike Lane as far as War Dike. Then take the path back to the coast and the Cleveland Way. Turn north and follow the Cleveland Way back to the start, either directly to the parking, or via the tea rooms by the old Ravenscar station platform where there is an information board explaining about Ravenscar and the railway.
