Walk Route Description

This Vale of Glamorgan walk starts from Dunraven Bay and continues inland to St. Brides Major. A section across country leads to the River Ogmore. Joining the Wales Coast Path the route follows the shore for five kilometres passing the small resort of Ogmore-by-sea along the way. A final short section along a section of grassy cliffs leads back to the start.

The walk starts from the car park at Dunraven Bat (grid ref. SS886732) which can be reached by taking the B4524 from St. Brides Major and turning left down the road signed beach/traeth. After parking and with your back to the sea, walk ahead keeping the toilets on your left. Follow the tarmac track inland passing the Heritage Coast Centre on your right. Where the track bends left, walk ahead to join a waymarked path (Valeways Millennium Heritage Trail). Initially the path skirts woodland on your left but after 350 metres turns left through the wood to emerge into a field. Keep the wall on your right and maintain direction for just over a kilometre to reach the B4265 (grid ref. SS896743).

Turn left and follow the road past a large pond on your left into St. Brides Major. Continue ahead at the junction with the B4524) and continue to just before the Fox and Hounds pub on your right. Turn left along Lon Yr Eglwys keeping right where the road forks. Continue uphill past the church on your left. At the next junction keep ahead uphill, cross cattle grid and at the next fork veer left onto a gravel track keeping the wall on your immediate left. Pass through a gap to the left of Tynycaia Farm keeping the right-hand edge of the field. After 250 metres at the end of the field the path crosses three more fields with a hedge on your left. Exit the final field, cross a track, and follow a fence on your right to walk close to a road on your left (grid ref. SS885711).

Continue beside a face on your right to reach a group of trees. Bear right here and join a well-worn path on the southern edge of Ogmore Down. Continue through a shallow valley keeping the main path to reach a road junction (grid ref. SS876672). Cross the road and turn left along a grassy path keeping the B4524 to your left and the Ogmore River on your right. Reaching a small parking area, keep left and pass in front of Ogmore House. You are now on the Wales Coast Path.

Pass through a car park for Ogmore Beach. The precise route of the Wales Coast Path is not well-defined but stay as close to the shoreline as possible. After following tarmac tracks, you reach a gate (grid ref. SS861751). Pass through the gate and continue along the path Continue for just over three kilometres to join the lane leading to Dunraven Bay. Bear right and a few minutes' walk take you back to the start.
