Join me and my dog, Logan (the Whippet), as we continue our series of walks in the New Forest. In this episode we explore the area around Ashurst. Along the way we come across the site of an Elizabethan Saltpetre House, a Roman Road, an unusual tree and even some free range pigs!

Route details: Leave car park close to Happy Cheese pub & follow road behind pub to a gate. Continue on gravel track with a lawn on right. Pass Keeper's Cottage on right. Turn right through gate & immediately go left along path. After short distance, as main track goes half right, take very narrow path on left alongside fence line. As fence line turns right, turn even sharper right o follow path beside block of conifers. Reach Y junction & turn left beside deer fence then at next Y junction, take left fork. Go straight ahead at cross roads of track & go downhill. Turn right at T junction and follow gravel cycle track first downhill then slightly uphill. Pass a turn to the right & continue on cycle track as it bears left, downhill. Miss narrow path on right and eventually at a T junction, turn left (ignore grassy track straight ahead). Follow path to right at a Y junction. Turn right at next T junction where path meets a cycle track. Immediately go through gate and follow track left over railway bridge. Come to a road & turn right. Follow road downhill (open heathland on left) & turn right after Saltpetre site (wooded area). Follow woodland edge to open grassland & holiday campsite. Skirt campsite, cross tarmac road & head for bus shelter on A35. Turn right along A35 , pass The new Forest Pub, go over railway bridge & back to car park.
