The Chirk Aqueduct and railway viaduct

Caption - The Chirk Aqueduct like the more famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct was designed by civil engineer Thomas Telford and opened in 1801. The aqueduct carries the Llangollen Canal at a height of 21m above the Ceiriog valley. Beside it is the railway viaduct designed by Scottish engineer Henry Robertson, and built by Thomass Brassey; it was opened in 1848.
