Freston St Peter’s church

Walk Photo 237401

Freston St Peter’s church

Caption - When looking for Freston church, ignore the tower on the horizon; Freston Tower is a Tudor folly six stories high. The church tower is half the height. In the churchyard, you cannot help but notice the peace or war memorial which is a beautiful figure of Peace carved from solid oak. The church has been over-restored and nothing of any great interest remains. The tower is 14th c. and the nave and chancel are under one single barn-type roof separated only by a great carved beam.

Suffolk

The County of Suffolk is in the East of England. Much of the county is low lying although there are a few hills, especially in the west. Arable land predominates and contrasts with the watery landscape of The Broads in the north. A notable feature are the wide estuaries that offer a habitat for a variety of birds. The Suffolk Coast and Heaths is the only National Landscape (formerly AONB) in the county. The highest point is Great Wood Hill, near the village of Rede, which reaches 128 metres (420 ft).
