Caption - This magnificent viaduct, the highest and longest in Britain, carries the Llangollen Canal 128 feet above the River Dee. Built by Thomas Telford and William Jessop, it was opened in 1805 having cost £47,000 (£3.25 million nowadays). It is just over 1000 feet long and is a dizzying crossing for a barge as the west side has no guard rail and drops precipitously to the valley bottom. The towpath on the eastern side though makes for a pleasant walk.
